History

The name 'Encounter' was chosen because of its dual meaning.

Firstly, the name ‘Encounter’ reflects our wish that the college will foster opportunities for all within the college community to encounter Jesus Christ in a real and personal sense.

Secondly, the name reflects the geographical and historical location of Victor Harbor and Encounter Bay. It was in this area in April 1802 that Matthew Flinders in his ship Investigator met the French ship Le Geographe under the command of Nicolas Baudin.
